Central Serous Chorioretinopathy
- first described in 1866 by von Graefe
- Maumenee first described RPE leak in 1965 using FA
- increased permeability of choriocapillaris
- this leads to focal or diffuse dysfunction of the RPE
- this leads to detachment of the neurosensory retina
- described in patients with high endogenous corticosteroids
- the only non-infectious choroiditis worsened by steroids
- foveal attenuation, chronic macular edema, foveal photoreceptor layer damage
- photoreceptor damage typically occurs around 4 months
- PDT with verteporfin recommended if not resolved by 4 months
- micropulse diode laser photocoagulation is an alternative to PDT
- stop steroids if possible
